El Tour Adventures:

aka King of the Mountains Training (for now)

  • 2/8/09  – Norco Hills Racetrack
  • 3 of us were brave/dumb enough to actually ride on the wettest day of the year so far. Mike, Mike and Hugh left from a park in Norco Hills and rode 2 laps of a figure 8 route centered on the Hidden Valley Golf Course. In just 12.5 Miles we got 1900′ of climbing in. After 2 laps we called it a day and retreated from the wet roads.

  • 1/31/09 – Glendora Mountain Road
  • A fun jaunt  from Legends Burgers in Upland west along Baseline and Foothill then North to Glendora Mountain Rd. Up to the Shack and down into the East Fork valley of the San Gabriel River. Back down Azusa Canyon and then along Foothill & Baseline. 62 Miles, 4800′ of climbing. Robin, Edith, Chris, Marty, Michael, Tim and Hugh left and all 7 made it back (usually a sign of a good ride).

  • 1/25/09 – Riverside (Canyon Crest, Overlook, Lake Pointe)
  • 1/24/09 – Santa Ana River Trail (Corona to Huntington Beach)
  • 1/17/09 – Banning Bench
  • 1/11/09 – Riverside (Moderate Hills between UCR, Canyon Crest & Overlook)

Had a great ride to Onyx Summit today with Todd.
Weather up on the hill was much nicer than at the bottom.
Some intermittent head winds on the last 10 mile stretch added an extra challenge. I haven’t told Todd yet but he came very close to getting clobbered by a LARGE rock a few miles past Angeles Oaks. 1 mile per hour slower and he would need a new helmet.
Thanks for going with me Todd. Great ride!
    Marty
