Contacts: If youre Going - Call or Text Mesg Paul Johnson 951-255-8174

Due to logistics of riding on the road in Big Bear, we are changing the ride in Big Bear - it is now an easy dirt fire road and single track mountain bike ride around Snow Summit Park. You dont need a lift pass. We will park in the Parking lot infront of Snow Summit Mountain Bike Park, then ride around the perimeter of the park. The ride very non technical so there are no rock drops or difficult riding, it is extremely scenic and offers views of the whole valley and lake. There is some climbing - but less climbing than a normal road ride, and if you dont like it you can turn around and follow a fire road back! I did this ride in 2 hours myself and I am slow - so we estimate 1.5 - 3 hours at the tops! We plan to start at 8, end before 10 or 11 and just hang out and have sandwiches - that we bring ourselves.

Again Call or text me if your going.... Paul Johnson 951-255-8174

On Sunday September 19 the rebel c's will be going to onyx summit.
This will require a remote start location. We will start from the mill creek ranger station on highway 38
just past Bryant.
This ride will be 60 miles with about 7000 ft of climbing. It won't be easy but it will be lots of fun.
So get your climbing legs ready. Everyone is welcome so don't be shy.

If you missed Saturday's GMR-Baldy ride, here is an equally difficult option.
We'll start at 7:30am from the McDonalds just past the instersection of Route 66 and S Lone Hill Ave. There is an old gas station next to it and a Starbucks across from it.
Ride up on GMR to East Fork Rd, left turn and down East Fork Rd to HWY 39, right turn and up, up, up to Crystal Lake. On the way back, all the way down on HWY 39 to Azusa and then heading East back to McD's. So far, just Marty and myself... come out if you are in for a real "Labor Day"!

Ride: approx. 65 miles, easily 6000ft of climbing 5-7.5%.(long sustained climbs)
A little hazy in the morning on the foothills, but clear all day.
Temperatures: at the start 62-67F; at 5000ft 68-73F; back in the valley 83-88F.
Winds: on the climb, a little gusty at times up to 15mph+ W-WNW.
(How do I know this, you ask? Well, I do weather for a living.)

What a great day at the Velodrome! We had 31 riders and a lot of fun. When entering the building and seeing the wooden banked track, there was a moment of terror. The ends of the track are banked at 47 degrees and look almost vertical at first glance. We all made our way down to the pit area and got our rental bikes. After we all set up our bikes we sat down for a lesson on track riding. The instructor, who seemed very serious and not much fun at first turned out to have a great sense of humor and was very patient with us. He did change tones with us when we messed up and let us know that we were bad but immediately went back to his humorous self. We started out with many laps on the very bottom of the track in the "Blue Band" to get us used to the fixed gear bikes. We then split up into groups and followed Andrew (the instructor) around the track several times and moved up the black line. The black line is the lowest part of the banked portion of the track. Later we followed Andrew to the blue line on the track which is 1/3 of the way up the track. This was very fun and many of us ventured off the blue line up to the rail (the very top of the track). The top of the track is very exciting especially when you look down almost 30 feet straight down in the corners. All groups took their turns and did really well. We went in groups several times and most of us became very comfortable on the banked turns. We did have one mishap where someone slid down off the track but escaped with just a few scrapes and wood burns. When our session was over, Andrew offered to let us ride the track for a while. There was a good number of riders that stayed for that. All that completed the accelerated velodrome course are now certified and can go back any time during appropriate sessions and ride.
All in all, this was a great experience. If you have never been, you should seriously consider doing this some day.

Route slip returns on California.
Some riders may want to return on Victoria or Dufferin.

Yesterday some of the A/B RBC riders decided to go to Huntington Beach next Tuesday. We will leave from the gas station on green river(the one close to the freeway)at 5:30pm. That is going to be a fast ride, around 60 miles and lights will be required. Any question just send me an email on brsasdelli@yahoo.com.br

Another option, similar to the one that was posted.

This is a shorter and flatter ride in the 58-60 mile range.
It does not do Santiago Canyon.

But it does do Shady Canyon, Newport Back Bay, PCH and return on SART.
There are two planned stopping points. One in Irvine at Sand Canyon and Irvine blvd. This is about 20 miles into the ride. The other is on PCH in Newport at Jack in the Box. This is at approximately mile 38. There are additional regrouping spots along the way.

I have sent out an invitation on Wednesday evening to the Arthritis Foundation California Coast Classic group to join us as a training ride. I know of 1 person who will be joining us. This was late notice so I don't anticipate too many people.

The pace will vary with the size and ability of the group.
Based on who I know is coming. The avg speed will be in the 15-17 mph range.

Sure would have been nice to go down there on a day like yesterday or today (107-108 in Riverside). The weather forecast for Riverside on Sunday is for a high of only 81. It'll probably be warmer inside the velodrome then outside when we get there. C'est La Vie.
